About Us
The Cranmore Surgery was established in 1873, making it amongst the oldest veterinary practices in the country. It was predominantly farm and equine practice and by the early 20th century employed two veterinary surgeons. The first world war and the advent of motorised vehicles had an effect on the practice and it became a single handed practice mainly serving the farming community of South Wirral. By the late 1970's farming was on the wane in the area and Mr Coles took over Cranmore. At that time it became a small animal practice with avian referrals. At that time the practice moved into the newly refurbished main building at Cranmore from the old barns In 1994 Mr. Skerritt, FRCVS took over as the principal from Mr. Coles, FRCVS adding neurology to the existing disciplines.
Church Farm Veterinary Clinic was established in 1993 by Mr. Skerritt as a clinic to treat small animals. It was the original home of the Silver Dougal Centre for Canine Epilepsy which is now located at ChesterGates Referral Hospital.
ChesterGates Referral Hospital was also opened in 2004. It is now one of the leading and best equipped referral practices in the country. Pets have even come to us for treatment from abroad. The hospital is staffed by veterinary surgeons and nurses 24 hours daily and all out-of-hours emergency cases are treated there. As a client of Cranmore Veterinary Services, you are eligible for fast-track referrals at ChesterGates Referral Hospital. Please note that ChesterGates Referral Hospital is a separate company.
The Cranmore practice has recently moved from its locations in Childer Thornton and Willaston to ChesterGates site in the building next to ChesterGates Referral Hospital. This move has enabled us to continue to offer our clients and their pets all that modern veterinary medicine can provide.
