Pet Care

The new Animal Welfare Act of 2006 places the responsibility of caring for your pet and ensuring that its welfare needs are met directly on you, the pet owner. The staff at Cranmore Veterinary Services are here to help you fulfil your responsibilities by offering advice, preventive health care programmes and medical care should your pet become ill or injured.

This duty of care means that pet owners must not only prevent their pets from suffering but must also provide them with what they need to 'be happy and content.'

The Five Freedoms
These form a useful guide to help ensure that all pets are happy and content.
  1. The freedom from hunger and thirst
  2. The freedom from pain, injury and disease
  3. The freedom from discomfort ( ie sleeping in a wet bed or on a rough surface)
  4. The freedom from fear and distress
  5. The freedom to express their natural behaviour

Some Basic Tips to Help You
Please remember that our staff are always happy to answer any questions you may have concerning your pet and its needs.

  1. Remember that annual booster vaccinations and health checks play an important role in keeping your pet healthy.
  2. Regular worming and flea treatment will help to keep your pets comfortable as well as healthy.
  3. A good diet and plenty of exercise will help your pet to remain fit, trim and interested in life.
  4. Make sure that your cat or dog is clearly identifiable with a collar or an ID chip. This means that if your pet should happen to stray, he or she stands a much better chance of being reunited with you.
  5. Don't leave you dog alone in a hot car. Even if the outside temperature is not very high, a car in a sunny spot will soon heat up to a very high temperature causing your dog suffering and even death.
